sundays are for

sipping coffee, smoking bowls, listening to music, balancing my budget, putting the finishing touches on the final work i turn in for the spring 2012 semester, continuing the unfucking of my habitat, and smiling because life is good

this is it

those moments when i turn my music up loud, open the windows and the front door, burn incense, smoke weed, rearrange furniture, change the page on the calendar, talk to my mom for over an hour about everything and nothing, make my best friend laugh repeatedly, introduce people to the vagina song, finish a book in a day, look forward to reading more books, sit still and do nothing, sit still and say nothing, pause to get a kiss from #him, decide to throw away everything in my closet that makes me look fatter than i am, throw away anything in this apartment I don’t really need, drink coffee late in the day, smile for no reason at all except i’m happy — those define life.

Love. Live. Life.

It’s Friday. I’m high on life and other things. Caffeine. Edibles. The general knowledge that my life is moving in a very positive direction.

I’m grateful.

Love. Live. Life.

20 pounds down, but still more to go.

I didn’t bother weighing myself until people kept pointing out that my clothes were too big and I looked smaller.

call center pet peeves

I have been up for over an hour, but I spent the first sixty minutes of my day dealing with the state of California Employment Development Department. I think I must have gotten the laziest state worker in creation.

the praise of my peers

As you may or may not know, I am one of the editors of the creative arts journal for El Camino College, Myriad.

In addition to editing this year, I also submitted my own work for consideration. One common misconception about being an editor on a project such as Myriad is that your work will automatically be included in the finished product. This is not the case for Myriad editors. Our work has to be read and judged by all editors on the project just like any other piece.

Most of us submit our work anonymously, so as to not bias the judging. I was one that did that this year, so I was extremely happy to find out my work made it, and the other editors really liked my poem.

Recently, we had a pow wow to decide what order the selected pieces would go in for this year’s journal. The editors wanted a strong piece to start off the book, and they chose my poem to be that piece.

So not only am I going to be published this year, but my poem is first in the book.

I feel proud. I feel thankful. I feel good.
